UPLB teams win at IEshikawa competitions

The UPLB Department of Industrial Engineering bagged top spots in two competitions at the recently held IEshikawa 16 last February 26. The representatives for the case study competition won 2nd runner up, and the team who participated in the design hackathon won 1st runner up.

IEshikawa is an annual event organized by the University of the Philippines Circle of Industrial Engineering Majors (UP CIEM). IE students from different universities join the said event to participate in various workshops, plenary sessions, and competitions. One of the competitions was the IExplore: Case Study Competition wherein 10 schools participated. UPLB’s representatives for the said competition are students Joseph Felix Marcelo, Shienna Crisanto, Darwin Satparam, and Jeunn Keizer Siguenza. With the guidance of their coaches, Engr. Alan Marco Mercado and Engr. John Kenneth Punongbayan, they won 2nd runner up.

Another competition held is the IEnnovate: Design Sprint Hackathon which tested the participants creativity and ability to solve real-life industrial engineering problems under time pressure. Nine schools participated in the said competition. The UPLB team, composed of students Vince Christian Aligui, Aaron Will Delmo, Gomer Fonacier, and Ann Jicel Mendoza, and coached by Asst. Prof. Angelo C. Ani, won 1st runner up.

In the past years, UPLB has been actively participating in IEshikawa competitions. Since 2017, UPLB has always been in the top 3 in the case study competition. This year, the design hackathon was held for the first time.
