Due to the growing demand for capable Industrial Engineers, the University of the Philippines Los Baños started to offer the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering in the first semester of 1999-2000 with 8 shiftees as its pioneer students. Currently headed by Dr. Josefa Angelie D. Revilla, the Industrial Engineering Department (UPLB-IED) has around 300 students enrolled and an average of 28 graduates per semester.

The department was first headed by Dr. Danielito T. Franco who served for four good years, 1999-2003. There were only three other faculty members aside from the Dr. Franco – Prof. Herbert T. Manaligod, Prof. Larry B. Mabatilan, and Lindley R. Bacudio. After his term, Dr. Franco was succeeded by Prof. Manaligod who served in 2004, and 2007-2008 and Prof. Bacudio in 2005-2006. Dr. Aurelio A. Delos Reyes Jr. soon joined the faculty and headed the department in 2009-2011. In 2001, the UPLB Industrial Engineering Students’ Organization (IESO) was then established to unite the shiftees and to represent the department in various university activities.

The department has been developing to consistently achieve their mission and vision. This continuous development is manifested in the curriculum offered by IED. Since 1999, it has already undergone four revisions to maximize the potential of each student, catering the changes in the academe and the industry.
